June 2010 Newsletter
Sure signs of summer are beginning to appear…..our Softball Team is working on another winning season (aka no serious injuries), our resident gardener, Chris B., has our hanging plants on the patio, and the signs are up at the Club advertising our Annual Boat Blessing (June 17).
Our “Thanks!” to the members that helped put the new metal roof on the shelter at the back of our yard (the one we use to cook under). At some point in the future, the main building is going to be a major job and expense, but the time is coming when we will need to decide on one more roof.
The Membership Committee interviewed several potential new members over the course of the past week. Most of these folks have been waiting a few years and are very enthusiastic about joining our Club. Hopefully, we will all benefit by knowing some more good people. Please remember when you first joined, and try to help these people along by welcoming them when you see a new face.
Last year we discussed putting a TV up on the patio – summer goes by so fast and the price of flatscreens have come down to the point where it made sense. Now you can sit outside and enjoy the weather while watching your favorite show or the news. Thanks to the members making the suggestion, and thanks to the Building Manager for taking the initative to install!
On the subject of the patio, there have been a few comments along the lines that “someone” needs to spend more time washing the tables and chairs. Well, just to be clear, we do not pay anyone for this type of work – it is voluntary. If you notice it needs to be done, please feel free to clean up…….”someone” will appreciate it!
The person(s) that removed the Fish and the Turkey mounts from the Backroom walls have returned them to the Club. Our best guess is that they were dropped at the backroom door on Saturday (Memorial Day week-end).
Apparently, they were not taken by an avid sportsman since they were not very well cared for. Unfortunately, what was likely some kind of joke is really grounds for membership termination.
Please come down and join us over the next few months at one or all of our Events….the Boat Blessing will be great (as usual) and we will have a band. July 24th is the Family Picnic this year; we hope to have a great turn out!
