February, 2010
After January, we have a few dreary months every year, with little to look forward to as winter starts to get tiresome.
Maybe that’s why so many Club members have spent time helping with the backroom spruce up. At last count, Ron Vanyo mentioned that there have been about 30 members that have donated their time and efforts to this work in progress. Members show their interest as they stop in and make a point of going to the backroom just to see what progress they have missed. It is really nice to hear the compliments being made about the great work our members do.
The dutch door and window in the kitchen are almost complete – we are waiting for the custom privacy roll-up “curtain” for the upper half. This is on order and should be available to install in the next few weeks. Coats of varnish are being applied to the wooden pass thru shelf. What a nice change to be able to simply walk straight into the backroom from the kitchen.
The other ongoing project is the refacing of the back bar. This project is turning out very nicely – it’s almost hard to recall the black carpeting that used to be there. We are trying to model the back bar after the front bar, and thanks to our in-house carpenters, it looks great.
We also have a new cabinet top (Formica) in the back room over the cabinets near the furnace room. A small investment that makes quite a difference.
There were a lot of hours spent to get us to this point. Hours of cutting concrete block, picking up supplies, cleaning, painting, and hauling debris away. Now the job is getting to the point of completion, and it is truly another job professionally done.
Please remember Fish Frys start on February 19th! This is one of our best fund raisers, and we need people to help with food prep (salad making), set up, and clean up. If you are not a part of the front end, then we still need you to come out and support the Club by having a nice time socializing at the bar and/or enjoying a dinner.
Many thanks to Joe Kalinski for thinking of our Club’s history and capturing some of our historic events on DVD. We have a copy of the DVD available at the Club and several members have spent an hour or so watching it.
My apologies for the problems with getting the Newsletter out over the last few months. We are working on a few options, and appreciate your patience.
DUES ARE DUE!
Please remember that your annual dues were due as of January 1st. If you have not paid, please do so or you risk being dropped from our membership. Thanks!

The Queen of Hearts is in the Building. Starting on Tuesday, October 6th, at 8:00 p.m., and every Tuesday after, we will be raffling off a winning ticket and an opportunity for the lucky winner to pick an envelope from our game board, which may contain the Queen of Hearts. Every envelope (54) contains a card from a Poker Deck (52 cards suited & 2 jokers). Every card is worth $20.00, but, but, if you pick the envelope with the Queen of Hearts you win 60% of the Grand Prize Pool.
At 8:05 that evening, (and all weeks to follow) all tickets in the Drum will be discarded and a new raffle will start for the week to follow.
The weekly raffles will continue until a winner selects the Queen of Hearts. In the process the Grand Prize Pool continues to grow. The winner need not be present. We will pick an envelope for you.
